„Out West is a visual travelogue documenting rural communities in the Canadian west. Over a hundred communities of between six and 1,000 inhabitants were documented.
The project offers a version of the current state of affairs in the Canadian West, exploring how rural spaces experience an urban-rural time lag. The images conjure up a Vonnegut-like idea of being “unstuck in time”, where objects and the built landscape deceive the viewer as to what period they belong too.“ http://kylerzeleny.com/index.php/out-west-/
„The idea for the project came when I was living in London, originally it was not intended as a book. I started to see a lot of emphasis being placed on ‘the urban’ in popular culture and academia. I felt that rural studies were lacking, possibly being undervalued as a redundant system. I also try to work off the belief that when everyone is looking at one thing (no matter the mechanism or approach), it is best to set one’s gaze upon something else.“ (Kyler Zeleny) http://www.urbanautica.com/post/90748633554/out-west-by-kyler-zeleny
Mein Fazit: Ein kleines unscheinbares Juwel. Chapeau! Chris W.
